The PAL Sixers defeated the Suns last night in a thrilling Championship Game, 29-23. The game was within 1 point with under eight minutes left in the second half, but the Sixers were able to mount their lead before all was said and done. Daniel Berg led the Sixers charge, leading the team with 7 points. But the story was mostly with the Sixers defense, as the dual guard system with Luke Perrone and Berg was able to shut down the Suns just enough for the win. Robbie Neall contributed a number of steals on defense as well as six points, with Zach Orendorf and Carson Reynolds each adding six points to the team's total. Ryan Williams led the game with 15 points, but was unable to connect on several free throws throughout the game.
In the consolation game for third place, the Spurs upended the Celtics, 33-24. The Spurs, who went undefeated in the regular season, won behind 16 points by their star guard, Joseph Sammons. The Celtics managed well without star point guard, Tim Pittman, as Jesse Mulligan dropped ten points in the losing effort.
It was a great season for all four teams in the league. As we offer our congratulations to the Sixers, the PAL will also open registrations to our spring 8-11 year old basketball league, which will begin in March.
