The Tar Heels went into the last game of the regular season with an untarnished record. They won their first game of the double header Monday night against the Spartans, 21-18. Sean Regan lead the game with 11 points, helping lead the Tar Heels to their fifth straight victory. Alexis Ferrell and Brock Ruddy combined for 16 of the Spartans 18 points, leading a fourth quarter surge that fell short as point guard Dallas Towner was unable to hit a long three pointer as time expired.
The first place Tar Heels, who had already clinched a first round bye in the playoffs, only had one team to beat to finish the season undefeated. The Heels looked good, heading into the half with a 12-10 point lead, but a second half onslaught of Wildcats' offense doomed the Tar Heels perfect season. The 17 point outburst in the second half, lead by point guard Chris Robinson, who finished with 17 total points. Sean Regan, Michael Dellose and Michael White each contributed 6 points in the Heels first loss of the season.
The Tar Heels will still enjoy a first round bye, as they will practice on Monday night from 5-6pm. The Spartans will then take on the Wildcats on Monday, January 31st at 6pm for a chance to win the PAL Championship.
